Denis C. Mitchell focuses his practice on representing people injured by the improper conduct of hospitals, healthcare providers, trucking companies, pharmaceutical companies and others. Mr. Mitchell has been chosen to speak, write and hold leadership positions in multiple organizations relating to his field of practice, including selection by peers for Best Lawyers in America in field of medical malpractice; Executive Committee and the Board of Governors of the District of Columbia Trial Lawyers Association; Chair of the D.C. Bar Tort Law Section (“tort law” primarily involves wrongdoing resulting in injury to persons); Amicus Committees for the Maryland Association for Justice; Adjunct professor in trial advocacy at the Georgetown University Law Center.

Mr. Mitchell’s recent results include multiple seven figure recoveries in medical malpractice, product liability, trucking, motor vehicle, and premises liability cases both before and during trial, including:

  • Several million dollar recovery for child with a brain bleed from undiagnosed arteriovenous malformation in the brain;
  • Seven figure recovery for amputee whose peripheral arterial disease was not diagnosed in a timely fashion;
  • Multi-million dollar recovery for parents of cyclist killed by trucking company;
  • Multi-million dollar recovery for local woman who suffered bilateral leg amputations after being struck by a fuel delivery truck;
  • multi-million dollar recovery in a drug product liability case;
  • multi-million dollar recovery after trial for client with severe brain injury from a motor vehicle collision;
  • obtained multi-million dollar recovery for families of children killed in a school bus/trash truck collision;
  • obtained $4.5 million verdict as co-trial counsel in a consumer protection case in federal court in March 2003;
  • successfully defended a local law firm in arbitration brought by an ex-partner;
  • obtained $985,000 recovery in premises liability case for a local small business owner injured at the Chevy Chase Arcade in Washington, D.C;
  • Seven-figure recovery for the estate and family of local man struck and killed by a drunk driver;
  • obtained $943,000 verdict in Montgomery County, Maryland, for a 62-year-old man whose brain was punctured by an instrument during ear surgery.

He graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he served on the Law Review. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and then spent a year in the Economics Department at the University of Navarre in Pamplona, Spain. Mr. Mitchell is fluent in Spanish.
