Denis C. Mitchell's practice concentrates on personal injury, consumer protection and commercial litigation. His recent case results include:

  • obtained multi-million dollar recovery in a drug product liability case;
  • obtained multi-million dollar recovery after trial for client with severe brain injury from a motor vehicle collision;
  • obtained multi-million dollar recovery for families of children killed in a school bus/trash truck collision;
  • obtained $4.5 million verdict as co-trial counsel in a consumer protection case in federal court in March 2003;
  • successfully defended a local law firm in arbitration brought by an ex-partner;
  • obtained $975,000 recovery in premises liability case for a local small business owner injured at the Chevy Chase Arcade in Washington, D.C.
  • obtained $943,000 verdict in Montgomery County, Maryland, for a 62-year-old man whose brain was punctured by an instrument during ear surgery;
  • obtained multiple six figure recoveries in medical negligence cases both before and during trial.

Mr. Mitchell teaches trial advocacy as an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center.  He is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of Maryland and the District of Columbia.

He received his J.D. in 2000 from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he served as a Notes and Comments Editor of the Maryland Law Review and is a member of the Order of the Coif. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia and then spent a year in the Economics Department at the University of Navarre in Pamplona, Spain.

Mr. Mitchell is on the Board of Governors and Education Committee of the District of Columbia Trial Lawyers Association.  He is on the Publications and Amicus Committees for the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association. Prior to joining Stein, Mitchell and Mezines, he was a litigation associate at Piper Rudnick, LLP (now DLA Piper) in Baltimore, Maryland, where he litigated patent and trademark cases and commercial disputes.
