Commercial Litigation
With years of experience in litigating complex commercial transactions, the attorneys at Stein, Mitchell & Mezines have developed wide-ranging skills to enforce and defend your rights. For example, SM&M has:
- Successfully defended a suit seeking a multi-billion dollar recovery in connection with a nuclear power plant in the Republic of the Philippines. SM&M prevailed in international arbitration in Geneva and in a jury trial in Newark, New Jersey. The result in Newark was selected by the National Law Journal as one of the top defense verdicts of 1993.
- Obtained a judgment in the amount of $17.3 million in a suit in District Court for the Southern District of New York for breach of oral contract and tortious interference with contracts in connection with the importing of the Yugo automobile. International Automobile Imports, Inc. v. Mid-Atlantic International Imports, Ltd., 85 Civ. 6546 (LBS) (S.D.N.Y. 1991).
- Recovered more than $13 million for a class of over 500 surviving spouses of federal law enforcement officers and firefighters. Moore v. Office of Personnel Management, No. 96-3346 (Fed.Cir. 1997); Anselmo v. King, 942 F.Supp. 44 (D.D.C. 1996).
